Dr. Pender grew up in rural western New York, an hour south of Rochester. He earned his undergraduate degree in 1992 from Villanova University in Villanova, PA. After taking two years off to work in a microbiology laboratory, he attended medical school at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury, NY, earning his medical degree in 1998. He then completed a 3 year residency in Pediatrics at Sinai Children's Hospital in Baltimore, MD, followed by a 3 year Pediatric Emergency Medicine fellowship at Akron Children's Hospital in Akron, OH.

After completion of his training, Dr. Pender moved west to Las Vegas, working as a Pediatric Emergency attending for 4 years before returning to the East Coast to join EMATB in March of 2008. He is board certified in both Pediatrics and Pediatric Emergency Medicine. His specific areas of focused interest in the Emergency Department include Orthopedics, Efficiency/Logistics and Procedural Sedation.

He is currently proudly serving as the Associate Medical Director for the Pediatric Emergency/Trauma Department.
